The worst moment of your adolescent life may have been the year that you were told you were too old to go trick-or-treating. (Just ask my 13-year-old son!) Hershey's TAKE5 helps adults get back into the trick-or-treating game with Take or Treat, a mobile site that lets people knock on their phone for free candy.
The Take or Treat mobile site at takeortreat.com, created by creative agency Barkley, turns your phone into a virtual trick-or-treating door. It prompts the trick-or-treater to turn over their phone, knock on the back twice, then flip it over to reveal a trick or a treat. Treat winners receive a bag of TAKE5 Snack Size bars shipped to their door, IRL (in real life), before Halloween. The tricksters behind the door have their fun with gifs and puns, but they will eventually give up the treat if you keep knocking.
Without requiring a full mobile app to be installed, the takeortreat.com mobile site takes advantage of features, like gyro and compass orientation sensors, that are freely provided to any website but underutilised by most mobile apps or sites.
The campaign is being promoted on social channels; Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. The mobile site is live 10/17-19 or until all bags are given away.
