Barbarian, the digital creative agency backed by Cheil Worldwide, today announced the appointment of Lamar Hines to Chief Technology Officer, effective immediately.

Equipped with over 15 years of experience in developing and delivering enterprise level B2B and B2C applications, Lamar will be critical in sharing Barbarian’s future and advancing the agency’s position as a leader in digital transformation offerings that deliver on brands’ key business objectives. He has partnered with brands including Nike, Samsung, Verizon, and Uber, to increase value realisation for existing technology investments, transform internal operations, and drive innovation programs.

Chief among his roles will be to oversee Barbarian Labs, the agency’s newly introduced offering that curate senior teams bespoke to brand clients’ business challenges. The offering provides a digital creative tool for clients looking for transformational action, as the DTC model continues its trajectory. Barbarian Labs encompass a series of ecosystem audits to identify obstacles and opportunities for a robust DTC ecosystem, innovation sprints to ideate long term solutions for those obstacles, and rapid prototyping to design larger transformation work inclusive of AR, applications, experiential, online to offline, and new internal processes or operations. The first client to work with Barbarian Labs is Samsung.

“Lamar will play a crucial role in bringing Barbarian’s strategic vision to life through 2020 and beyond,” said Steven Moy, Barbarian CEO. “He has an accomplished background and entrepreneurial spirit that will champion Barbarian Labs and our clients’ work, driving their businesses forward with a technology-focused mindset.”

Lamar previously served as VP, Technology at R/GA where he supported the agency’s Enterprise Technology service offering. He successfully managed large scale teams that focus on enterprise technology, technology consulting and software delivery across R/GA’s global network. Lamar’s work has amassed several industry accolades, including recognition from FWA, One Show Interactive, and the Webby Awards.

“Barbarian is at a prime milestone in today’s industry climate. This is an exciting time for Barbarian with the introduction of a broadened client offering,” said Lamar. “I look forward to working with the agency’s talented team to further advance its growth and success through the intersection of creativity, strategy and innovative technology.

Lamar’s appointment falls on the heels of Barbarian’s recent appointment of Steven Moy to CEO in August 2019. Continuing its legacy as an innovative agency partner, Barbarian also kicked off its Digital Barbarism event series in October 2019, playing host to seasoned executives and experts across various industries to discuss game-changing trends and issues affecting brands and agencies in a world where client needs are ever-evolving.
