This week sees the launch of the 90-second Elsa Schiaparelli film, supporting the Italian brand’s much anticipated return to the couture catwalk at Paris Fashion Week.
The iconic Elsa Schiaparelli brand was named after its founder, one of the most prominent, innovative figures in the history of fashion and a rival to Coco Chanel. Now, 60 years after Schiaparelli’s final show in 1954, and 40 years after her death, the label has been relaunched, with a collection calling to mind Belle Epoche Parisian style.
To celebrate the revitalization of the label, art director and filmmaker Christian Borstlap collaborated with international creative production company The Ambassadors to create a contemporary animated film illustrating the fashion firsts of the daring creative force behind the brand.
From her inventive imagination and revolutionary visions on sportswear, Haute Couture, art, ordinary-elements-turned-into-elaborate creations, prints, colors, shapes, fashion and fragrances, many of Schiaparelli’s fashion firsts are re-imagined using elements of 2D and 3D design and a fresh, contemporary style.
Manuel Ferrari, Creative Director, The Ambassadors, commented: “This is the ninth film we have collaborated with Christian on and, as always, it was a complete pleasure to create. The richness of the source material we had to play with gave us huge inspiration throughout the project and allowed our imaginations to run wild. We are delighted with the finished result and hope that Elsa Schiaparelli would find it a fitting tribute to the legendary label she created.”
