Brand practice Anak announces the launch of 1880’s latest brand, 1880 SOCIAL, the latest lifestyle destination located at Two Taikoo Place, Hong Kong. This exciting extension of the visionary social club 1880 that has redefined connection and conversation in Singapore, is brought to life in partnership with Swire Properties.
First of its kind, 1880 SOCIAL is a brand-new fully accessible concept, bringing the brand’s signature blend of exceptional hospitality and programming to the public. It sits part of a new life-work campus occupying the first three of four floors in Two Taikoo Place, in Quarry Bay Hong Kong, together with 1880’s third and newest private members outpost 1880 Hong Kong, following 1880 Singapore and 1880 Brawa.
Anak worked closely with long-term partners 1880 to create the new brand world for 1880 SOCIAL, an extension of the 1880 universe that Anak had developed in 2017 for the private members’ club that first opened in Singapore. The name 1880 SOCIAL was created by Anak, accompanied with a brand system that once again drew inspiration from the Group’s ethos “in service of good conversations”, crafting a brand world that captures the invisible layers of buzz and atmosphere that will define this vibrant social hub.
“We envisioned an identity for 1880 SOCIAL that embodies the dynamic interplay of work and play within the space. Through punctuations and letterforms, notes and chords, steps and routines, we have created layers of innovative graphics and pattern sets that represent the rhythm and flow of life in this multi-purpose campus where conversations spark, ideas flourish, and a diverse community comes together,” said Jeremy Tan, creative director, Anak.
Based on the concept of ‘reading the room’, the logo and accompanying monogram embraces the 1880 wordmark and attribution while combining an abstracted ‘S’ that enables us to peer into a dynamic graphic world. To bring to life its brand ethos, the brand system also boasts a conversation device, using typography to ‘paint’ a mental picture or to complete an image to bring about even greater movement, energy and buzz.
Anak created brand principles that are easy to apply and flexible to the many touchpoints and varying concepts within 1880 SOCIAL. Using pattern sets derived from punctuations and notes, the spirit of conversation is embedded in spatial affectations through to digital and social communications. These graphics will be infinitely interpreted to visualise a robust atmosphere of people and ideas coming together.
1880 SOCIAL and 1880 Hong Kong’s interiors, crafted by MSDO and AvroKO’s Bangkok studio, boasts restaurants, coffee and wine bars, a gym, spa, working lounge, co-creation facilities, event spaces and more.
