The two Asia-Pac companies collaborated on putting together an event for the Ciclope International Festival of Craft off the back of winning its Production and Post Production Companies of the Year awards

Alt.vfx founder Colin Renshaw, and Peter Grasse, president of Curious Film, were invited to the Ciclope International Festival of Craft in Berlin as special guests and left carrying home awards for Production and Post Production Companies of the year.

It was a pinnacle moment for both Asia-Pacific companies.

So when Curious Film and Alt.vfx received a second invitation to tour with the world’s only film festival dedicated to promoting, advancing and applauding the best crafted advertising, they knew immediately what could be done with the opportunity. Together, they’d help Ciclope craft the world’s best advertising events.

“The idea was obvious. We take great pride in everything we produce and Ciclope is an inspired organisation showcasing the best production our industry has to offer. Collaborating on a crafted event was a golden opportunity for us all,” Peter Grasse, president, Curious Film said.

Event no.1 was in Auckland, where both Alt and Curious collaborated with Monkey Shoulder ‘Triple Malt’ Scotch to create a craft cocktail called “Ol’ One Eye” in honour of the Ciclope Cyclops Monster.

The dynamic duo also invited New Zealand’s Super Villians Eno & Dirty to join the stage. These two had been major contributors to Curious’ production of the famed ad-rap, Giganaire, for Saatchi & Saatchi New Zealand andTelecom, as well as to Curious’ Ciclope win.

INSTRUCTIONS: To experience Curious’ and Alt.vfx Ciclope event in Auckland vicariously: Ol’ One Eye is 30ml fresh pressed lemon juice, 30ml simple syrup, 45ml Whiskey, 4-5 fresh mint leaves. Stirred not shaken.

Event no.2 was in Tokyo, where Curious and Alt.vfx got to plan a memorable close to the world’s most prestigious film craft tour.

Was this event the tour highlight? Let’s hear it from Ciclope:

“Last Wednesday, May 27th, about 120 of the most influential producers, creatives and directors in Japan took part of Ciclope Tokyo, the last stop of the international tour that Ciclope Festival carried out to showcase the most inspiring works and discuss the future of storytelling all around the world.

Supported by Curious Film and Alt.vfx the event was held in Harumiya Yakatabune Cruising, an old-style Japanese boat that offered a wonderful view of the Tokyo bay area.

The night started with the screening of Ciclope Festival’s last year’s winners and continued with guest speakers Masato Mitsudera (head of creative at Geometry Global) and Seiichi Saito (artist and director at Rhizomatiks), who explained their creative processes and discussed the challenges of being innovative in the digital age. Meanwhile, attendants enjoyed a traditional dinner and met colleagues while sharing drinks and watching Zen La Rock’s wild live performance.

With its high energy and enthusiastic crowd, Ciclope Tokyo was a perfect ending for the first Ciclope Festival World Tour, which ends as a huge success. Thank you, Japan! See you next year!”

INSTRUCTIONS: To experience Curious’ and Alt.vfx’s “perfect ending for the first Ciclope Festival World Tour” vicariously: book Tokyo’s ultimate party venue, Japan’s largest yakatabune on Tokyo Bay. Add local hip-hop hero, Zen La Rock and let him perform to the who’s who of advertising whilst seated on tatami mats, dining on tempura and sipping highballs. Ciclope Times!
