LBB’s April Summers learns how the company’s new production services arm is redefining what it means to work across borders in today’s fast-paced, globalised world
As the demand for global content continues to soar, production companies are under increasing pressure to meet the unique challenges of international shoots. For ALTERED, a company with a strong track record in the US Hispanic market, the next step in their evolution has been clear: creating a production services arm that bridges the gap between high global standards and local production realities.

Founded by Marcos Cline-Márquez, ALTERED.LA has earned a reputation for excellence in the US Hispanic market, delivering campaigns that are both culturally resonant and globally competitive. But, with growth on the horizon, the company faced a pivotal question: how could they expand without losing the qualities that had made them so successful?

Thus came the launch of ALTERED.services – a "GLOCAL" offering that combines deep local expertise with a global mindset, providing production services across multiple Latin American markets while going above and beyond to achieve the same level of quality US-based clients expect.

A GLOCAL Approach: The Vision Behind ALTERED.services

Marcos is excited to tell me all about the company’s latest development. He recalls how ALTERED.LA had found itself at a crossroads after several years of steady growth–and this was the turning point that inspired the launch of the production services arm.

"We needed to decide how best to channel that growth," he says. "We realised that our experience working in the US Hispanic market - coupled with our deep knowledge of Latin America - was our key differentiator."

Rather than competing against well established US production companies, the company has become a resource for all of them: offering boutique production services tailored to meet the needs of US-based clients filming in Latin America and beyond.

Through this new venture, ALTERED.services aims to fill a gap left by larger, impersonal service providers and smaller, often inconsistent, local companies. “Larger service providers often leave clients feeling like just another number,” Marcos notes. “Smaller providers are more focused on local jobs and don’t always deliver the polish needed for larger-scale, global campaigns.”

To Marcos, it was clear what was needed: "local, boutique production services on a global scale" - what they call, “GLOCAL”.

The Growing Need for Agility and Client-Centred Service

In talking to Marcos, I learn that one of the key insights which drove the creation of ALTERED.services was the need for more flexible services within Latin America. Over the years, Marcos has witnessed growing frustration among US-based production companies, many of whom have struggled with the limited service options available when shooting internationally. He knew ALTERED could be part of the solution for this.

"The production landscape today is more fast-paced and complex than ever," Marcos explains. "Budgets are tightening, timelines are shrinking, and client expectations are sky-high." For US-based production teams managing international shoots, navigating cultural nuances, local regulations, and logistical complexities can often feel overwhelming.

Recognising this challenge was an opportunity, the team drew on their years of experience, building out ALTERED.services to offer exactly what the market needed: a partner that understood the unique pressures of US clients while also having the local know-how to execute flawlessly across Latin America.

Seamless Coordination Across Borders

ALTERED.LA’s unique multicultural approach to content creation, combined with its growing international presence, has positioned ALTERED.services as a standout provider of seamless, cross-border production coordination. With offices in Los Angeles, Mexico City, Bogotá, and recently added locations in Uruguay and Portugal, the company’s reach is vast. But what really sets them apart is how each office is integrated into a unified system, allowing for a smooth, consistent experience no matter where the shoot is taking place.

"One of the advantages of our global-local approach is the ability to offer a consistent experience across different markets," Marcos explains. "Whether you're shooting in Mexico, Colombia, Uruguay, or Portugal, the experience will be nearly identical. From budgeting to daily schedules to final wrap, our standards are consistent."

This integration is particularly beneficial when managing international talent and crew. Marcos shares an example of a US-based campaign which required African-American talent, which Mexico’s casting pool simply couldn’t offer. “We activated our team in Bogotá to find the right talent,” he says. “What the client didn’t realise is that we’d handled the entire casting process seamlessly across borders - this perfectly demonstrates the power of having a GLOCAL infrastructure.”

The Multicultural Ethos Behind ALTERED.services

At the heart of ALTERED.LA’s approach is, and always will be, a deep commitment to inclusivity and diversity. The company’s multicultural ethos is evident in every aspect of its work, from the talent it hires to the stories it tells. This ethos has been carried over into ALTERED.services, where Marcos insists on maintaining a commitment to social impact - especially when working in Latin America.

"We’re not just providing production services; we’re also creating opportunities for underrepresented talent in the local markets," Marcos explains. "In Latin America, there are challenges related to classism and racism that often prevent talented individuals from gaining entry into the industry. We make it a priority to create opportunities for these people."

For US-based clients, this approach offers a unique benefit: access to a highly skilled and diverse team. By fostering an inclusive, equitable working environment, ALTERED.services not only delivers exceptional content but also supports a larger cultural shift in the production industry.

As the need for international shoots continues to grow, ALTERED.services is positioning itself as a key player in this evolving market.

Marcos points out that the demand for global content is no longer confined to traditional media formats like TV commercials. "We’ve worked on everything from Cannes-winning interactive series to celebrity-driven global campaigns, feature films, and Netflix stand-up comedy specials," he says. "The key to staying ahead in this space is agility and understanding the differences between formats. It's about delivering top-tier content no matter the medium."

So, what does this mean for US-based brands and agencies? "The world is your oyster," Marcos says with confidence. "There are endless opportunities to connect with consumers worldwide. Bring us your wildest ideas, and we’ll figure out how to bring them to life, seamlessly and with the highest quality."

Navigating the Future of ALTERED.services

As ALTERED.services promises to grow and expand, the team remains focused on building a strong foundation for future success. Opening new offices in Montevideo, Uruguay, and Lisbon, Portugal, further cements its position as a leader in international production services.

"Our team is expanding rapidly," says Marcos. "Marisol, our head of production, is stepping into a larger role to oversee operations across all regions. We’re bringing in talented individuals like Guillermo Carbonell in Uruguay and Manuel Santiago in Portugal to help lead the charge."

This expansion isn’t just about geography. It’s about empowering a diverse, multi-lingual team that shares the same values and commitment to excellence. "We focus on education and empowerment," Marcos says. "We want to develop our coordinators and production managers into producers, helping them grow within the company."

In 2025 and beyond, ALTERED.services plans to continue its trajectory of success, supporting not just the growth of the company, but also the broader production industry. By staying true to its ethos of inclusivity, cultural respect, and unwavering commitment to quality, ALTERED.LA is setting the stage for the next chapter of its journey—and they’re inviting clients to come along for the ride.
