Leland Music founder Abi Leland picked up two of the big prizes at the Music Week Sync Awards last week.
Abi won the Music Supervisor award’s advertising category and also became the first ever winner of the overall Music Supervisor of the Year award. She beat off strong competition in the advertising category, whilst prevailing against the winners of the Film and TV Music Supervisor categories for the overall award.
Abi says “The role of the Music Supervisor is not one that’s often the centre of attention, so to be honest it feels quite strange to be going on stage and accepting awards, but of course it’s always nice to get recognition. Also this award is unique because it’s the only one that acknowledges the actual role of the music supervisor, rather than the contribution to a specific piece of work.
The inaugural edition of the awards was a celebration of the best uses of music in advertising, movies, TV programmes, trailers and video games from the past year. Seen as an extension to the traditional Music Week Awards, the evening recognised the work of sync teams from publishers, labels and ad agencies, as well as Music Supervisors and individual syncs.
Abi says “It’s very positive that this specific area of the industry is getting its own recognition. I hope the awards continue to grow and become well known within the advertising/film/media industries too. It was a real privilege to receive the awards, especially in its first year. The winners were selected through an open vote by all within the industry, which feels great to know we are appreciated and affirms our reputation.”
Abi Leland is the founder and Managing Director of Leland Music, a unique and highly-esteemed music agency that works closely with the world’s most successful brands and ad agencies. She adds “I don’t feel any added pressure. It’s always important to us to consistently deliver good work, and to build up the relationships where clients are confident and trust in our experience and knowledge. If the awards add to this then great.”
