The eight-minute film which appeared on YouTube, will also be shown at Milan Fashion Week and has been turned into a fully immersive digital experience presented by Ross on the website aw21.a-cold-wall.com.
Inspired by pervasive surveillance in our lived environment, Ross sought out Dohrn for his experimental, technical approach. Dohrn worked on creating a visual mood that used obscure camera angles to create a surreal, alien and technological atmosphere.
Further working with DOP Spike Morris, Dohrn developed a maelstrom of unusual and innovative techniques to showcase the collection. From a drill piece camera rig to body-mounted infrared security cams, the clothes seem to be examined under an omnipresent, voyeuristic gaze framed by Thomas Bird’s sparse set design.
The collection split up into two distinct sub-brands (a more refined A-Cold-Wall* and more youthful ACW) is accentuated by the film's distinct moods. Dohrn’s frenetic edit is also complimented by Kelvin Krash’s evocative soundtrack. Krash’s sound moves from ethereal techno to more experimental notes to grime, creating the perfect audioscape for Dohrn's dystopic camera language and the brand’s latest designs.
