Former Wieden+Kennedy São Paulo ECD set to lead

New York has built a reputation as a pretty hardboiled ad town, but it’s about to get little dose of optimism in the form of 72andSunny New York, which they've just opened.

72andSunny has always championed a uniquely LA kind of advertising: audacious work created by collaborative and optimistic people. They believe that translates to other cities, including New York. “NYC talent rocks the world. We've always wanted to create a home for folks who believed that a spirit of optimism can create the best work in the business,” says John Boiler, CEO of 72andSunny. “I can't think of anyplace in the world more "can do" than New York. Let's roll."

The 13,000 square foot office is located on the top two floors of 30 Cooper Square in the heart of the East Village. For 72andSunny, the New York shop makes it easier for them to work with great clients and hire great people. “We think we’re better for being part of the New York creative community—and we think we can make it a little better by being there,” says Chief Strategy Officer Matt Jarvis.

They're also announcing the hire of Guillermo Vega, former ECD of Wieden+Kennedy São Paulo, as executive creative director of the New York office. Vega helped to found W&K São Paulo, growing it from three employees to 100+ in four years and winning clients like Nike, Coca Cola, Levi's, and Heineken. He joined W&K from Y+R, where he worked for over 13 years, rising to Regional Creative Director and overseeing Latin America from the Y&R headquarters in New York. He also worked as global CD for Dell and Bacardi, as well as the group CD for Virgin Atlantic and VH1.

Guillermo will be lead the office along with managing director James Townsend, who will be relocating to New York from the Los Angeles office. While in Los Angeles, he played an active role in the work and partnership with brands like Samsung, ESPN, Truth, and more. Townsend will continue to lead the Samsung brand.

The New York staff currently consists of 40 designers, writers, strategists, social media planners, brand managers, and content production people. They will initially support primarily the Samsung and Smirnoff brands.
