11 Reasons Why It Totally Really Sucks Being a Social Creative

Ben Cobley, Visual Content Creator and Guy Miller, Social Content Editor, at FCB Inferno, dish up their daily struggles

Our friends think we spend all day on the Internet looking at cat videos and our mums think we need to book an appointment at the clinic when we tell them we go viral.

Now the first part might be true (and it wouldn’t hurt to get tested) but we wanted to set the record straight. Being a social creative is a slog. Don’t believe us? Here’s a list of struggles we have to face. Every. Single. Day.

1. Being overloaded with all the latest tech. GoPros, smartphones & now a drone (how are we supposed to fly this thing?!)

2. The constant test of willpower being surrounded by Grant’s whisky bottles but NEVER being able to open them.

3. The tiring trips upstairs to the roof terrace or across the road to the park for mini-shoots.

4. Or the longer trips around town to film Hot Yoga, a Roller Derby and a Wasps Ladies training session – it was actually a bit rainy here.

5. Never being able to look at an image again without wondering ‘does it crop to a square?’

6. Creating sunny, sandy images for Havaianas whilst staring out of the window at gloomy London.

7. Hardly knowing the people who sit next to us as we’re never at our desks.

8. Having to expense things like plant pots, a handheld fan, an easel and cling film… don’t ask.

9. Acquiring a taste for lukewarm coffee because we’re never in one place long enough to drink it.

10. Having the delightful, forgiving and rational people of the Internet judging our work. In real-time.

11. Spending all day on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. For work, honest!

And imagine getting paid to do all of this. Horrible.
