RTE - The Late Late Show Promo

Ahead of Patrick Kielty’s much anticipated debut as the new host of Ireland’s most loved show, the Late Late, we created a campaign of teasers and a promo which drew on the show’s heritage icon, the Barn Owl.

Piranha Bar’s newest director Graham Gallagher, brought his decades of creature VFX and character animation direction to bare on this spot for RTÉ’s promo team.
His challenge – leading the team in recreating a photo-realistic Barn Owl that could be animated, lit and rendered to match the ridiculous cuteness of the real McCoy which he also captured in-camera. The final film contains and seamless mixture of both the footage and the CG bird as it mimic’s Patrick’s every move.

Later, while directing Patrick himself on set, Graham was able to get the new host to perfectly replicate the owl’s signature move. Impressive!.
