Sometimes all you need is a lyrical cue. ‘My dons going straight to the top floor’ was the spark for this one. As soon as director Joao Retorta heard it, he imagined a camera going up a staircase. Floating. Constantly moving from one floor to the next. Uncut. Finding Jelani and his crew on each level. A sense of infinity on screen as we keep going up, yet seemingly never really progressing. Never reaching the end.
