It’s been twenty-two years since the Spice Girls last teamed up with Walkers crisps. Now, to coincide with their latest reunion tour, Baby, Ginger, Sporty and Scary are back promoting one of Britain’s most iconic brands.
It was 1997 when the ‘Wannabe’ hitmakers had their faces printed on Walkers’ crisp packets. In a sultry advert starring a fresh faced Gary Lineker, the stars appear to tempt Gary who assumes the form of “No More Mr Spice Guy”.
Fast forward to 2019 and Bafta award-winning director MJ Delaney directs this TVC for Walkers created by AMV BBDO. In it the Spice Girls are in pursuit of their biggest fan, Dev, played by comedian Guz Khan (Turn Up Charlie, Man Like Mobeen).
Shown in the primetime ad-break between Britain’s Got Talent final, “When It Comes To The Crunch, It Must Be Walkers” celebrates what’s great about inclusive Britain. Its icons… its people…and its love affair for a certain potato snack.
