SITUATION:
Geneva is a vibrant city well known for its theaters, community bars,
public beaches, public parks, state sponsored festivals and concerts.
However, in 2016, despite a positive budget, the new government cut its spending on social and cultural affairs.
The citizens still had the opportunity to vote against the cuts but most of the Genevans didn’t feel concerned about it. They were enjoying
summer in the city and all its great assets instead of defending them.
//IDEA:
We launched the operation RIPPING INSTAGRAM APART.
First we collected every Instagram picture taken in the threatened places and events. Then we ripped them apart and sent them back to their owner… with a little explanation: Hi, @xxx Do you like this place ?
Vote and protect it on june 5th #unevillequivit
Hundreds of pictures were ripped apart and reposted.
//RESULTS:
As a result, during the three last weeks of the polls, the voting turnover suddenly improved... Until we finally won with a significant margin: 60%
