Background
In Uzbekistan, over 2,400 people die in traffic accidents every year, with more than 260 of them being children. This is eight times higher than in Europe. A significant portion of these fatalities occurs at night due to poor street lighting. The country faces an energy crisis, and upgrading the infrastructure would require more than $4 billion and take decades. Meanwhile, 30% of orders in Uzum are collected in the evening, when pedestrians are most vulnerable. Gross Insurance, facing increased payouts for car insurance claims, is losing money due to the high number of accidents.
Idea
Visible Bag — a reusable shopping bag with a reflective sign. Instead of regular bags, people received these bags along with their orders, especially in the evening when visibility is at its lowest. The initiative started at 234 Uzum pick-up points in Tashkent, and within the first month, we distributed over 10,000 Visible Bags. This simple solution effectively increased pedestrian visibility, reducing the risk of accidents in low-light conditions.
