WWF - Up In Smoke

WWF ‘Up In Smoke’ was a privilege to be music supervisors on. We are proud to be linked to such an important message. The cause effects us all, and the immediacy with which the world needs to act are not beyond critical. On a creative level the project was a joy to be part of. Twelve Decibels has been a fan of animation agency Nomint since seeing their previous WWF creations, so we were thrilled when the opportunity came to be the music consultants for the third film in the series. 

Being brought in early to oversee all things music, we helped hone the overall brief with research into tracks, creative routes and artists. We guided the client on some of the best ways to achieve what was needed creatively as well as logistically. Billie Eilish’s ‘When The Party’s Over’ was a vital element in the overall message. Not only are Billie and Finneas passionate about the environment, but the lyrics hit hard on this spot, so the question became how to make this track work. We landed on a community choir led by Hughie Gavin (Faber Music). The choir’s character, combined with Hughie’s beautiful arrangements and production style created exactly what we were after - a haunting but beautiful track that highlighted the devastating situation the character in the film found herself in. 

Since launching at COP28 the film has picked up countless awards, including 2 x gold British arrows, 3 x D&AD including a Yellow Pencil, 2 x AICP wins and an inclusion into the MoMA permanent collection, 2 x One Show, 6 x ADCs, 2 x gold CLIOS, 3 x Creative Circle awards, 6 x Collision awards, and 2 x New work Festivals awards! A huge congratulations to the whole team for such brilliant work.
