You will have heard us talk a lot about the possibilities of an XR studio, or seen footage of us setting up an XR studio, in this blog we aim to tell you a little bit more about how XR works and how you could use it.
XR stands for extended reality. XR combines virtual and real-world environments and realities. This means that a user can not only exist within a virtual world, but interact with it as if it were real. XR is part of the AR (augmented reality), VR (virtual reality) and MR (mixed reality) world of modern technologies
Using technologies like Unreal Engine, a gaming software, and touch designer we are able to create an animated 3d world.
This imagery is then played in real-time on an LED corner screen. Using Stype Red Spy camera tracking technologies, the movement of the camera is mapped to the content on the LED screen and continues the image to create a 360 space.
XR opens a whole new world of possibilities! The main use that we have been exploring in our XR Studio is raising the production values of virtual events. The XR Stage allows us to create 360 degree 3D worlds which can be engaged with by a presenter. This makes it the perfect home for virtual and hybrid events. We have recently wrapped on three virtual events for one of our clients. Each event had various elements. We ‘beamed in’ a speaker from New York via vMix to interact with the speaker in real time on stage in London.
Not only are we able to use XR to create seamless virtual events, but it can also be used to revolutionize the world of tv and film production. Currently, we are in the process of R&D to bring a children’s tv programme to life in this virtual world.
We are now working on ways to bring our new-found knowledge to Virtual Production. This is taking the camera tracking and real-time content generation to a whole new level of production value. We would like to create a permanent Virtual Production solution in the South West.
