Inspired by great car-racing films like Grand Prix (1966) and Le Mans (1971), Recommended Media director Vic Huber continues his life-long love affair with high-performance automobiles with a short film created for iconic automaker Ferrari. In collaboration with Nicholas Berglund of nb creative company, both the official film and Huber’s director’s cut showcase the glorious new Top Gear super car of the year, Ferrari 458 Speciale, a street-legal vehicle with all the power and performance of an official racing car.
“This was a fantastic opportunity to work with Nicholas and one of the most iconic brands on the planet, and Vic hit it out of the park. The Ferrari looks amazing and it is easy to see why many are calling the 458 Speciale…car of the year”, says Jeff Rohrer, Executive Producer at Recommended Media.
While the official version of the film focuses squarely on the elegant features and technical details of the new car, Huber took the opportunity of creating a director’s cut to reveal the unsurpassed power and performance of the automobile. He quickly realized that he would not need any film tricks to enhance the car’s incredible performance.
“As a director who specializes in dynamic, high-performance car films and commercials, I relished the opportunity to show the 458 Speciale performing in ways one does not usually witness,” says Huber. “To give the film the authentic look I was after, I decided not to ‘speed up’ the on-screen action in any artificial way. We were also very fortunate to have a Ferrari race driver who had been involved from the beginning of the car’s development behind the wheel. This enabled the type of razor’s edge style driving experience that appears in the film. Throughout the experience, we were given a lot of creative freedom to create the most exciting film possible. This project was a wonderful luxury for me as a director.”
Huber and Recommended Media worked closely with Nicholas and directly with Ferrari to create this short film, which is definitely long on excitement.
