Picture one of the most iconic sports-cars on the planet. Now place it in the desert and bring it face to face with a turbulent sandstorm. Universal Production Partners are delighted to be part of this gorgeous VFX experience that has brought the team a bronze medal in 2023 Clio Awards. Let’s take a quick look behind the scenes of a project that every post-production yearns for.
This has been another great experience with our favourite long-term partner Hochkant Film, we cooperated on several automotive projects with them before. This time we split our duties, as they took care of the final online and grading while we focused on more demanding visual effects. The Porsche 911 is a living legend that has always been a favourite among car enthusiasts – like us. And when you meet a gifted director (Anders Jedenfors) at the same time, Nirvana seems near.
The plotline: A historic Porsche 911 Dakar speeding in a desert meets its successor in a really dark sandstorm. We knew right from the start that it had been absolutely crucial to design the art concept of how the sandstorm should look like. That is where AI came in. And it saved us a good week, that we were able to invest in proper post-production work.
As usual, everything had to be treated with the highest security standards. Neither at the time of shooting nor during the post-production phase, has the particular model been disclosed to the public. Only a selected group of artists was able to access the data and it was processed in dedicated rooms with the top TISAX® security certification. This is the standard set-up when working on any prestigious project in UPP. We keep everything separate not only from the outside world but also internally. When the project goes public, it is first time seen for 90 % of UPP.
Filming that has taken place in South Africa has been remotely supervised this time. It is always crucial to closely combine the shooting and VFX to get the ideal composition, angles, light etc. Fortunately, Anders Jedenfors knew perfectly how to find the right setting in order to capture the essence of what we all wanted to express – the iconic Porsche brand in tough desert conditions.
Thanks to Hochkant Film and Anders Jedenfors again for fulfilling our boyish car dreams!
