So it’s the end of an incredibly weird week. Like millions of others across the globe, at Concord we are working from home ‘until further notice’. Whilst our working lives used to involve heading to gigs two or three times a week and meeting up for coffees and lunches with fellow industry people, we are now cooped up working from our solitary kitchen tables. There’s no pasta or loo roll to be seen and we’re washing our hands every 10 minutes whilst repeatedly singing ‘Happy Birthday’. Some of us are locked in dingy London flats that were only ever supposed to be a place to sleep, and others are expected to home school their children at the same time as working a full day – WTF?!
But it’s not all complete doom and gloom. We’re all rallying together to protect vulnerable people, thinking up weird and wonderful ways to support small businesses and having virtual cups of tea together over web cam. I watched a live streamed performance by one of my favourite artists from his living room the other day and it felt like he was playing just to me.
At Concord we are also determined to use this time in the most positive ways we can – be it hunkering down and listening to that album we never got around to, brushing up on our photoshop skills or writing a blog. We can still be creative and appreciate music, maybe in ways we’d missed out on before.
On that note, I’ve found myself drawn to certain songs this week, and thought I would make a playlist of them. From George Harrison to Benjamin Britten – calming songs from the Concord catalogue.
So if solitary confinement is making you, like me, feel one minute like laughing hysterically and the next on the brink of a breakdown – here is a playlist that will hopefully help with that.
Remember – we are in this together and it’s only temporary!
Stay safe and well everyone.
