Editors' Choice: againstallodds and Passion Paris journey around the world for Delsey in ‘What Matters Is Inside’
againstallodds has directed a beautiful short film for French luggage company Delsey, produced by Passion Paris.
The film tells the story of Simon, a typical thirty year-old, overwhelmed by his work when he receives a phone call from his mother. He returns home after the disappearance of his father to find a note leading to his father’s suitcase… using Delsey’s geolocation system to track it to Mexico. This is the start of what seems like a wild goose chase around the world, but over time Simon will do more than discover the luggage, he finds himself, growing closer to his father at the same time.
‘What Matters Is Inside’ is executed in a truly unique visual style developed by againstallodds to give the animation a textured, watercolour feeling. It was achieved starting matte paintings to create the environments whose lighting was then used to create the 3D space for the characters all finished with a distinct cell-shaded look.
