After the fun and food filled Christmas campaign from last year, Piranha Bar and BBDO Dublin are partnering up once again to deliver another stunning (and hilarious!) TV spot for Lidl, only this time it’s all about ‘Beefgrudgery’.
For the new TV spot, Piranha Bar and BBDO Dublin have created a world of claymation characters bringing to life some of Lidl finest products. None more exceptional than that of Lidl’s award-winning Irish Beef, the true star of the show.In what director Gavin Kelly calls a “uniquely Irish take on success”, the spot sees Bread, Strawberries, Cheese and a curmudgeonly Turnip throwing some serious shade on Lidl Beef. The Irish aren’t about notions of grandeur and we sure do love to bring each other back down to earth.
The spot features some of the finest Irish voice talent, including John Kenny as the blabbering Turnip, Norma Sheehan as the proud Cheese, Tony Cantwell as the reliable Bread and Wexford’s very own TikTok star Shauna ‘shaunadavitt123’ Davitt as the self-assured Strawberry. Sure obviously the Strawberries had to be from Wexford.
Alongside the incredible characters, meticulous sets and hilarious voice acting, the spot features some mouth-watering shots of the famous Lidl steak. If only we had Smell-O-Vision…
This highly entertaining ad will surely provide a few chuckles and perhaps an impromptu trip to the shops. Between Bread, Cheese, Turnip and Strawberry, Gavin Kelly hopes that “despite being clay modelled foodstuffs (via 3D animation), you might recognise one or two?”
