Inland surfing company, The Wave, has appointed Platform London as its new creative partner. The unique destination was the first inland surfing destination of its kind in the world when it opened its Bristol site in 2019.
The appointment of Platform coincides with The Wave’s announcement of a major investment deal with Sullivan Street Partners worth £27million. The deal will support the expansion of the business and development of four further wave parks in the UK, including one in Enfield, London.
The Wave is built on the original vision of founder and chief vision officer, Nick Hounsfield, who has a compelling desire to share the positive power of waves, the physical and mental health benefits, and the pure joy of surfing, with as many people as possible. Social change, inclusion, accessibility and sustainability are core aspects of the business model and despite the challenges of opening six months before the covid lockdown in March 2020, over 100,000 people have experienced surfing at The Wave. This includes those of all levels and abilities, from beginners stepping on a board for the first time, to pro teams training for the Olympics, as well as adaptive surfers from across the UK and beyond. Visitor numbers are set to climb with the continued growth in outdoor leisure and the surging consumer interest in health & wellbeing.
Commenting on the appointment, Nick said, “Investing in the brand at this stage is key for us. Their appreciation of our vision, the experience we offer and the ambitions we hold, was clear from the off. Not only do they have a strategic creative capability that is unmatched, but put simply, they get us, they get what we are trying to do and immediately felt like part of our team. I have no doubt that their help will be instrumental in supporting the next stage of our growth and development.”
Kate Bosomworth, founding partner of Platform alongside Justin Tindall commented, “The Wave is an extraordinary place, led by an extraordinary team with an extraordinary vision - one we are thrilled to be part of. It is very rewarding that the value of our work is being seen by many businesses, as instrumental at this stage of investment and with a growth trajectory of this scale. I’ve spent much of career working with brands in sport, health and wellbeing – so am super excited about this opportunity and yes, we both love surfing.’
