Music - the universal language that pulls us into our feelings and has us singing at the top of our lungs. Sound is so often used to evoke feelings at specific moments - think of horror movies, happy moments or life changing decisions - I bet particular sounds come to mind for each. Musical genres all have melodies which make the audience feel, and therefore, keep them invested.
When it comes to ads, the same applies. Creatives will often ask, ‘What do we want to make the audience feel?’ and depending on the answer, it’s either entirely new compositions, reusing nostalgic old tracks or creating remixes which bring those feelings out. If you’re asking how and why that happens, it turns out that music engages with the part of our brain that controls emotions and is attached to memories – which says a lot about why those nostalgic songs bring a familiar warm and fuzzy feeling.
Aside from that, a well placed track keeps an ad at the top of your mind, increases the chance of you having an emotional connection with a brand and frankly, (both physically and metaphorically) helps the product fly off the shelf. So, LBB’s editorial team sat down to think about all the ads which musically resonated this year, and here’s what we came up with.
