Not To Scale’s newest studio Not To Scale Amsterdam and their BAFTA nominated director Bertrand Bey were commissioned by creative agency Havas WorldWide to create this heritage film for the world’s first luxury whisky, Chivas Regal.
Discovering the story of John and James Chivas, from their family farm in the Scottish countryside to the creation of their luxury emporium in Aberdeen. The pioneering spirit and generosity at the heart of their venture has lived on to inspire the continued production of the world’s first luxury whisky.
Director Bertrand Bey teamed up with longtime friend and co-director Adam Janeczek to “create a film that is both modern and fresh, while keeping the sense of Chivas’s lifelong heritage by making use of old footage from the brand’s archives.”
From the point of view of the brands founding father; James Chivas our film narrates the Chivas Regal story, taking us back in time, highlighting key moments by using stylish and modern motion graphic and typographic techniques, whilst encouraging respect for the nostalgia.
Bertrand and Adam avoided obvious linear storytelling by projecting historic moments onto 3D shapes creating a colour palate the compliments the gold and copper tones of the whiskey. The shapes used serve as a container for the footage creating a very bold, graphic and confident environment.
Not To Scale Amsterdam is the third and latest studio from multi award winning Production Company, Not To Scale who also have studios in London and New York.
