The New Blank has a new installment of its Looper Projects, interpretations on a theme made by the team for pure creative inspiration. Marcus Kulik designed and animated Final Stage: Fight! which connects to the theme 'redirection'.
“My initial thoughts when coming up with concepts for the theme 'redirection' was how light rays are reflected off of every surface that we can see, and the vector math that drives modern VFX and game render engines,” Marcus explains. “While brainstorming with these inspirations I noticed that vector math is present in almost every video game, back to one of the very first, Pong. The way the pong ball bounces off the paddles and screen sides at coincident angles is a perfect representation of reflecting light. This short project became a love letter to retro video games.”
'Redirection' also reflects how video game design has changed in a relatively short time. Games started out very simple, being limited by a computer's capability. Now games are packing in more gameplay, mechanics, and graphics than many would have thought possible. Still, the thrill of those early games remains, if only as a matter of 'Redirection'.
