Swell Music + Sound Adds Ana Velasco as Executive Producer


With a background in sync for agencies and brands as well as for hit films, she brings an expanded capability to service clients and forge connections

Swell Music + Sound Adds Ana Velasco as Executive Producer

Swell Music + Sound, the Bay Area studio that specialises in original music, sound design, sonic branding and audio mixing and post, has tapped music veteran Ana Velasco as its new executive producer. Her hire was announced by Swell founder and creative director Elad Marish.

Prior to joining Swell, Ana was with Format Entertainment, a music licensing and supervision company serving the entertainment and media industries. She’s worked as a music coordinator on such films as the cult hit ‘Cocaine Bear,’ as well as ‘Unfrosted,’ ‘Jerry and Marge Go Large’ and ‘Shotgun Wedding,’ as well as music supervisor for a variety of short films. Prior to joining Format she worked with brands and agencies as creative sync manager at Position Music; while there she worked closely with music supervisor Michael Frick, a colleague of Elad.

A published poet and writer, Ana was born and raised in Mexico City, and after a stint in New York she relocated to Los Angeles, and now divides her time between there and her hometown. She’ll be working with Swell out of both cities, and her Latin heritage represents an opportunity for Swell to work with Hispanic agencies and brands, Elad noted. “Ana is a fantastic person and fits our culture really well,” he said. “With her on board, we can broaden our client base and make new connections in different markets.

“She’s excited to learn about our workflow and how we partner with agencies and brands,” Elad continued. “And she can apply that to her work in music supervision and curation, so everything ties together nicely."

Ana met up with Elad at an awards show in L.A. earlier this year, and the connection clicked. “We bonded over our passion for music and its indispensable role in storytelling, from ads to videogames and of course film and TV,” she noted.

On what Swell represents in terms of opportunities for growth, Ana doesn’t hold back. “I come from a writing background, including copywriting, which is all about understanding the underlying emotional landscape, so being able to play upon those themes with sound has been really incredible,” she said. “I like to apply creativity to every aspect of my life, and having a multimedia background in the worlds of editorial, advertising, and film will allow me to bring a unique perspective on problem solving and creative management for all of our clients and endeavours at Swell, not only for brands and ad agencies.”

Elad notes that Ana will be on hand to meet the company’s San Francisco clients and friends at the upcoming AICP Awards screening and panel, set for mid-October at the Exploratorium. Swell Music +Sound is the official music sponsor for the event, and will be DJing the reception after the panel discussion and screening – an event Elad is looking forward to. “We’re excited to have her on board and with us for this occasion,” he noted. “Her energy and creative spirit is just infectious.”

Founded in 2009, Swell’s client list includes such brands as Pepsi, Meta, Nike, Airbnb, Old Navy, Fitbit, Barefoot Wines, Uber and Google. It’s also produced work for local faves like the NBA’s Golden State Warriors and MLB’s San Francisco Giants. In addition to providing original and licensed music, sound design and audio post for brands and agencies, the studio has extensive credits working in music videos and short films, and has created #Beatific, a psychedelic indie pop band that’s been releasing original tunes online.
