In his fourth series with Australia Post, illustrator Andrew Hopgood consulted with the CSIRO, the Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation (ILSC) and Australia Post’s sustainability team to design stamps reflecting:
- Indigenous land management by the Indigenous Rangers Program in the Northern Territory
- Australia’s unique biodiversity at Lake Connewarre, Victoria
- Renewable energy technologies in our communities
ILSC Board Chairperson Ian Hamm said its Real Jobs programme has created 12 Indigenous Ranger Groups in the Northern Territory, contributing to national programs which support more than 2,200 jobs in land and sea management since 2007.
“As seen on the stamp, the Rangers undertake important activities such as the protection of threatened species, bushfire management, revegetation and the protection of culturally significant sites,” Ian said.
"We're proud to be a highly valued part of Australia's biodiversity management, while also producing wider social, cultural and economic benefits."
Australia Post group manager Philatelic Michael Zsolt said three new stamps had been created to promote the important message that, together, we can make a difference when it comes to taking care of the environment.
“As an iconic Australian business, and one of the largest employers, it’s our responsibility to drive change for a more sustainable future. Through this new stamp series, we are committed to engaging and educating Australians about the important of biodiversity, Indigenous Land Management and renewable energy.”
All stamps are $1.20 AUD and available together on a sustainability sheetlet. The stamps and associated products, including a mini-sheet and stamp pack, are on sale now at participating Post Offices, via mail order on 1800 331 794, and online while stocks last.
