Star Tribune Media Co., the largest news organisation in the Midwest, has selected Code and Theory as its digital agency of record to relaunch its Web and app properties.
Like many local media organisations, the Star Tribune is at a pivotal moment - redefining its core purpose and business model for the digital age through a new tech stack, partnerships and strategic objectives. The media company seeks to create the leading model for local news in America – driving innovation in media to make every Minnesotan’s life better. This model will include a newly refreshed Web and app presence set to launch in the fall.
To create this best-in-class experience, it has appointed the technology-first creative agency, Code and Theory. Together, they will accelerate the Star Tribune’s mission of building a better Minnesota by connecting the people, ideas and stories that strengthen its communities. Working hand-in-hand with the Star Tribune’s product, design and engineering teams, Code and Theory will engineer a modern Web and app system for the readers and advertisers of tomorrow.
Founded in 1867, the Star Tribune is redefining itself as a modern media company. Its new digital presence will centre its product and features around what makes Minnesotans and the media outlet special – its ability to cover local news in a way that connects with its readers.
Having launched more than 200 websites for companies, including Bloomberg, Vogue and the LA Times, Code and Theory has a strong heritage of being the go-to agency for implementing content and publishing across digital experiences.
Star Tribune, chief product officer Aron Pilhofer says, “Through refreshed technical, design and product systems, we are going to work together to reimagine what ‘local’ coverage and connection means in the age of digital. We want Minnesotans to know that we are thankful for their support and the Star Tribune will be there for them for the long haul. There was no better agency than Code and Theory to lead this charge.”
Code and Theory CEO Michael Treff says, “It’s not every day that you get to help reinvent an iconic, 157-year-old business that means so much to so many. No one knows Minnesota and the Midwest as well as the Star-Tribune. We are going to distil all that makes it distinct to its readers, and advertisers, to create a modern and performant digital experience. This new platform will not only differentiate the Star Tribune, it will allow it to lead the next wave of evolution for local media.”
