LBB’s April Summers speaks to the new general manager about his plans to bridge the creative and operational sides of the virtual production company

Toronto-based virtual production company SP Studios has announced the appointment of Paedric O’Sullivan as its new General Manager. With a career spanning 25 years across photography, motion design, broadcast, and agency-side production, Paedric brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the intersection between creativity, innovation, and operational efficiency.

From his early days at MuchMusic, Space, and Bravo!, where he helped shape the visual identity of some of Canada’s most iconic television productions to leading the post-production and production division at Publicis Canada for over a decade, Paedric has consistently pushed the boundaries of craft and technology. His work on high-profile projects for ESPN, NASCAR, and the WNBA has further cemented his reputation as a creative leader who understands the demands of fast-paced, high-stakes production environments.

Now, at SP Studios, Paedric is poised to help the company expand its capabilities in virtual production, refining workflows, deepening client relationships, and positioning the studio as a leading creative partner in both the Canadian and U.S. markets. Under his leadership, SP Studios is set to evolve beyond a production service provider, becoming a key player in shaping the future of commercial and entertainment content creation. LBB’s April Summers sits down with Paedric to find out more.

LBB> What attracted you to SP Studios, and why was this the right move for you?

Paedric> What really attracted me is the studio’s position to embrace ICVFX production. The industry is evolving rapidly and for me, this role is the perfect opportunity to bring my experience from agencies, broadcast, and production into a company that’s poised for even greater growth.

A major part of that is Khasan, whose vision toward innovation, technology, and top-tier execution aligns perfectly with my own philosophy of always pushing the creative and technical boundaries. I see SP Studios as a place where we can stretch what’s possible in commercial production - whether it’s through smarter workflows, cutting-edge technology, or new creative collaborations. It’s an exciting time to be here.

LBB> How do you see your role as general manager contributing to the growth and success of SP Studios?

Paedric> As general manager, my role is to bridge the creative and operational sides of SP Studios to ensure we’re not just delivering exceptional work, but also scaling effectively, staying ahead of industry trends, and expanding our capabilities. My experience in both agency environments and production has taught me that success isn’t just about having great ideas – it’s about building the right structure, processes, and team culture to bring those ideas to life at the highest level.

Khasan has built an incredible foundation here, and I’m excited to contribute to the next chapter by ensuring that we continue to evolve, push boundaries, and deliver outstanding work.

LBB> What are some of the immediate goals you have for SP Studios in the coming months?

Paedric> In the coming months, one of my goals is to strengthen SP Studios’ position in both the Canadian and U.S. markets by refining our operations, enhancing client relationships, and ensuring we’re always aligned with the best creative opportunities. I want to ensure SP Studios isn’t just a service provider but a trusted creative collaborator.
One key priority is freeing Khasan from the day-to-day operational demands so that he can focus more on direct client engagement and high-level strategy. He’s built something smart at SP Studios, and by allowing him to dedicate more time to business development, we can provide even more personalised attention to our clients.

Another immediate goal is optimising our internal culture and workflow to maximise our potential. The production industry is evolving rapidly, and I want to ensure that SP Studios remains agile, efficient, and positioned to compete at the highest level. That means examining our processes, continuing a culture of innovation, and making sure our team has everything they need to deliver their best work.

Lastly, I see my role as providing a second set of eyes on both the industry and business landscape - making sure SP Studios is keeping up with market shifts and actively positioning itself to capitalise on them. Whether it’s new production technologies, emerging creative trends, or key partnerships, I want to ensure that we’re always working on the best projects and collaborating with the most talented artists in the industry.

LBB> What kind of collaborations or partnerships do you see as opportunities for SP Studios moving forward?

Paedric> I want to deepen our relationships with agencies and production companies. In doing so, we can become a valued creative ally offering not just execution but strategic input. Clients today are looking for partners who understand their creative vision and business goals, and I want SP Studios to be top of mind.

There’s also a clear opportunity to expand our footprint in the U.S. We already have the capability to work with international clients, and by strengthening relationships with U.S. based agencies, production companies, and streaming platforms, we can tap into larger scale projects and position SP Studios as a trusted partner for crossborder productions.

Great work happens when the right people come together, and I want SP Studios to be a hub for the best directors, cinematographers, editors, and VFX artists in the business. Our goal is to align ourselves with artists who push boundaries and elevate every production we take on.

The industry is evolving fast, with new innovations in virtual production, AI-assisted post, and cloud-based workflows. Partnering with technology providers and postproduction innovators will help us stay ahead of the curve, allowing us to work more efficiently and expand the types of projects we can take on.

While SP Studios has a strong foundation in commercial work, there’s room to explore more collaborations in entertainment - whether it’s short - form storytelling, branded content, or even supporting independent filmmakers with high-end production resources. The lines between advertising and entertainment continue to blur, and I see an opportunity for SP Studios to carve out a bigger role in that space.

LBB> How does your leadership style align with SP Studios’ culture and vision?

Paedric> One of my core beliefs as a leader is empowering talent. Great work happens when people have the space, support, and trust to do their best. I want to foster a culture where ideas are encouraged, and everyone - from production to VFX to web development - feels invested in our success. That means creating real opportunities for personal and professional growth. We win and lose as a team, but every individual deserves recognition, development, and the chance to push their own boundaries.

I also believe in accountability, and respect. I see my role as a coach and mentor, not a boss. I expect to learn as much as anyone and I hope to be challenged and encouraged by my team and colleagues to be better at every aspect of our jobs every day.
