Sony/ATV songwriter Sting received a special award at the 67th annual BMI Pop Awards in Beverly Hills when ‘Every Breath You Take’ was recognised for nearly 15 million radio plays. The 1983 global chart-topper overtook Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil’s song 'You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’', which had been BMI’s most-performed song for 22 years.
It is the latest BMI honor for Sting who was made a BMI Icon in 2016 when ‘Every Breath You Take’, which featured on The Police’s last studio album Synchronicity, was then recognised for 13 million radio plays.
A new version of ‘Every Breath You Take’ will feature on Sting’s new album My Songs, which will be released on May 24 and will also include new interpretations of classics such as 'Englishman In New York', 'Fields Of Gold', 'Shape Of My Heart' and 'Roxanne'.
