The British talent tops the year-end survey as his song 'Shape Of You' finishes as the service’s most-streamed song of the year with 1.4 billion streams and his third studio set Divide leads the annual album chart with more than 3.1 billion streams since its release in March.
Fellow Sony/ATV signing Drake, who was Spotify’s top artist globally in 2015 and 2016, ranks at No. 2 on the 2017 list, while his playlist More Life is the second most popular album. In the U.S. he finishes ahead of Sheeran as the most-played artist.
A number of other Sony/ATV songwriters are represented on Spotify’s year-end lists, including The Chainsmokers who are one of the five most-streamed acts of 2017, while Taylor Swift and Sia are among the top five female artists. Daddy Yankee is one of the year’s most-streamed male artists, while fellow Sony/ATV signing Camilia Cabello finishes as the top breakout artist of the year following successes such as her global hit 'Havana'.
Four of Spotify’s five top songs globally are published by Sony/ATV with 'Shape Of You' joined by The Chainsmokers & Coldplay’s 'Something Just Like This' and both the original Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee version of 'Despacito' and the remix featuring Justin Bieber.
