Sony/ATV’s Calvin Harris, Drake, Ed Sheeran, Pink and Jorja Smith were among the winners at the 2019 BRIT Awards.
Having previously received 14 nominations without winning, Harris made amends in impressive style at Wednesday night’s ceremony in London where he won Producer of the Year and then collected a second BRIT for British Single of the Year. He shared the British Single accolade with Dua Lipa for their hit 'One Kiss', which was the biggest song of 2018 in the UK with nearly 1.6 million equivalent sales.
The wins topped a busy night for Harris who performed his current single 'Giant' with Rag’n’Bone Man on the O2 arena stage as well as 'Dancing With A Stanger' with Sam Smith and 'One Kiss' with Lipa.
For the second consecutive year, Ed Sheeran won the Global Success Award, marking another outstanding year for the Sony/ATV singer-songwriter whose many overseas successes of the past year included the international hit “Perfect” which was the No. 1 song of 2018 on U.S. radio. He was also responsible for the top tour of 2018, according to Billboard magazine.
Also at this year’s BRITs, Sheeran’s song 'Woman Like Me', which was a hit for Little Mix featuring Nicki Minaj, won British Video of the Year. Little Mix performed the song at the ceremony alongside Banks, while Jess Glynne sang another co-penned Sheeran hit, 'Thursday'.
Among the night’s other Sony/ATV successes, Drake won International Male Solo Artist for the second time and Jorja Smith won British Female Solo Artist having received the BRITs Critics’ Choice award a year ago.
The night concluded with Khalid presenting fellow Sony/ATV songwriter Pink with the Outstanding Contribution to Music award before she performed 'Walk Me Home', 'Just like Fire', 'Just Give Me A Reason' (in a duet with Sam Smith), 'Try' and 'What About Us'.
