Uno Helmersson’s score for The Painter and the Thief, the Sundance Special Jury Award-winning documentary by Benjamin Ree, has been released by Sony in concurrence with the film’s US digital distribution.
After the artist Barbora Kysilkova has two paintings stolen from a gallery in Oslo, she becomes as focused on the men who took them as the return of the paintings themselves and, at the trial of Karl-Bertil Nordland, she asks him if perhaps she can paint his portrait. Ree follows the pair as they form a knotted relationship, striving to know each other and to be known.
“…the year’s most moving documentary,” says The Guardian.
