Students from Singapore’s five polytechnics have submitted 70 ideas to bolster water sustainability and mitigate the effects of climate change in campaign from Tribal Worldwide Singapore

More than 250 students from Singapore’s five polytechnics have submitted 70 ideas to bolster water sustainability and mitigate the effects of climate change.

Tribal Worldwide Singapore in partnership with the National Water Agency has launched the second instalment of PUB Splash Lab. The nationwide competition sees over 250 students from all five polytechnics tackle climate change, particularly water sustainability, with innovative ideas and solutions.

Launched in 2020, the growing initiative sets out to fuel the conversation around sustainability among young people in higher learning institutes and cultivate water conservation from the ground up. Over the course of four months, students put their heads together to design solutions that champion water sustainability and mitigate the effects of climate change. PUB received a total of 70 entries. Among this year’s thought-provoking innovations are talking shower heads, child-friendly taps, and a mobile game that teaches water saving practices.

Team Quest Saga from Singapore Polytechnic emerged as the winner of the Innovative Solutions category, through a mobile role-playing game (RPG) that aims to excite families with kids to conserve and save water through gamification. Team #itstartswithme from Temasek Polytechnic won first place in the Public Campaign category, with their engaging and bite-sized social media posts which appealed to fellow youths to join the conversation on water conservation.

“Over the years, we’ve partnered with various stakeholders to create a culture where every Singaporean, starting from a young age, values every drop of water,” said Cindy Keng, director of the 3P Network Department at PUB. “The theme of this year’s PUB Splash Lab reflects the growing threat of climate change, including water sustainability and rising sea levels. We are heartened to see the quality and diversity of the submissions received. It’s a true testament to the creativity and passion of our nation’s youth in tackling these challenges.”

Benson Toh, executive creative director at Tribal Worldwide Singapore, added: “Our goal is to showcase the students’ brilliant ideas and prove to the public that every effort counts. By demonstrating how Singapore’s students are proactively tackling climate change, we hope to inspire everyone else to play their part too.”

A short video capturing the public’s reactions to the winning teams’ work has been shared on PUB’s Facebook and Instagram pages.
