The Sharks Music Video Awards today announce their star music video award jury with award winning Polydor Records Music Commisioner Semera Khan at the helm as jury president.
Semera has commissioned music videos for some of the world’s biggest artists such as the Rolling Stones, the 1975, Lana Del Rey and Madonna. As jury president, her role is to oversee all music video juries and ensure the usual high standard is maintained throughout the judging process.
The iconic sharks head trophies will be awarded for best music video, casting, choreography, cinematography, direction, editing, grading, new director, performance, production design, VFX and writing.
The music video jury so far is comprised of a cast of the top creative talent from Agile Films, Atlantic Records, Caviar, Final Cut, FRIEND, Island Records, Motherland, MPC, Polydor Records, Somesuch, Stink, Untold and Work Editorial.
Plus commissioner and Promo News Editor David Knight, Commisioner Kirstin Cruickshank, Directors Rep Alexa Haywood and Commisioner Emily Jeffrey.
The full jury list is here.
Shark Awards chairman Peter Brady said: “There is no doubt that the standard of music video production in both craft and creativity have reached new levels of excellence over the last number of years with a welcome acknowledgement from the music industry that high quality Music Videos are an essential part of their marketing mix.
We take our music video awards very seriously and make it a priority to ensure we have a top notch jury panel to find and reward the very best with a trophy!”
Semera Khan added: “It’s very important to award great music videos, and it's important for everyone’s work to be seen. It creates excitement in the industry, helps grow the network of creators and sets goals for the new creatives that are coming through. So much ‘blood, sweat and tears’ goes into making music videos, it’s encouraging to be recognised and celebrated amongst peers.
As Jury President of the Sharks Music Video Awards, I will encourage each jury member to look at ALL aspects of the video, it’s not just about the story telling, the cinematography, edit, art direction, styling, casting - although obviously all key - but also about the music and artist; is it elevating the song?; is it creating a world for the artist; is it making you feel something for the music…?”
Music video was introduced to the Shark Awards in 2016 with the firm belief that music video has the power to be a significant form of creative expression and launched the careers of some of the industry’s most talented filmmakers.
Last year’s Grand Prix was won by FRIEND for ‘Sad Day’ by FKA Twigs.
