Fresh off the back of directing Honda’s epic ‘Origin of Determination’, Sedona director Paul Mitchell has enjoyed an impressive year that has seen the director pick up a slew of international awards for global and local campaigns.
The new Honda marketing campaign takes the audience on a journey through the company’s global 73-year product history to demonstrate how it will continue innovating to achieve the vision of founder Soichiro Honda that “the purpose of technology is to help people”.
The campaign, via LA-based creative agency RPA and through Mitchell’s US rep Elastic, kicked off with a 60-second TV spot highlighting over 100 of Honda’s pioneering products, while pointing toward Honda’s future plans.
Cleaning up on the award circuit this year, Mitchell recently secured two Clios, an ADC Award, and won Silver at the Promax Awards North America for his ESPN ‘College Football’ campaign. His NFL ‘Kick Off’ also received Promax Award nominations.
Earlier in the year, he also directed Swinburne University ‘Next Gen Now’ via Deloitte Digital, positioning the university as the prototype of a new and different educator at the cutting edge of what’s next.
Sedona managing director, Kim Wildenburg, says: “Paul is a passionate storyteller with a cinematic eye, strong design aesthetic and has an excellent understanding of combining live-action with high end visual effects. It’s wonderful to see his body of work go from strength to strength.”
Mitchell has directed high profile campaigns for Honda, Gatorade, Jack Daniels, Jaguar and Call of Duty, and is also behind the ‘It’s On Us’ campaign for the Obama / Whitehouse administration. He has won many awards from BAFTA, Emmy’s, Promax BDA and the New York TV & Film Festival.
With experience spanning a diverse range of creative projects, Mitchell has worked for the BBC in London and Prologue Films in Los Angeles, collaborating with Marvel, Warner Bros and Universal Studios, along with designing and directing for Ironman 2, Battleship and G.I. JOE Retaliation.
