3angrymen Productions have followed up their successful #SkillsForLife film for Scouts, which launched the organisation’s rebrand in 2018, with a new promo that focuses on the moments before and after a parent drops off their child at Scouts.
The film is part of a broader media, social and press campaign to encourage more parents to volunteer with Scouts. With the waiting list of young people wanting to join Scouts at an all time high (60,000) the organisation urgently needs 15,000 more adults to volunteer.
Kevin Yeates, head of creative at Scouts, says: ‘‘From the first conversation to the final film, the team at 3angrymen instinctively and brilliantly knew what this film had to achieve. I wanted parents and young people to watch it and think "that could be me" and take action to get involved with Scouts. I wanted the scenes to showcase how everyday routines can still present opportunities and spring surprises.
Notably, the production was helmed almost exclusively by women; namely Laura Scrivano (director), Kezia Clark (producer), Kate Reid (director of photography), Natasha Guiness (art director) and Rosie Owens (1st AD).
Thom Wood, from 3angrymen Productions, says: "We’d wanted to get Laura to direct one of our films for a while. Given her sensibilities she made total sense for this project and then she suggested Kate, whose catalogue of work is just immense. Considering the continued lack of balance in the industry right now, we were really pleased we could work with a female-led team and showcase their talents in this spot.”
“The concept really hooked me in from the moment I read the creative” said director Laura Scrivano, “I loved the humour, warmth and family dynamics. To make the most of the inherently intimate setting/scenario I wanted an experienced drama DP to shoot it for me, so I was absolutely thrilled that Kate came on board. We totally embraced the confines of the car, the close up, as well as the movement, repetition and rhythm associated with the familiar routine of pick up and drop off. This is absolutely a film for parents, watching your child grow is such a joyous, tiring (!) and emotional experience.”
Alongside the film, 3angrymen have released a short behind-the-scenes video, which can be seen below.
