Renowned ‘Domo’ Animation Studio 'dwarf' Launches New Pilot for Amazon
Japan-based animation company, dwarf Studios, have created ‘The Curious Kitty & Friends’, a new stop-motion animation episode to participate the pilot season that launched in June 17 in the US, UK, Germany, Austria and Japan.
This is the first time Amazon has commissioned a Japanese animation studio kids’ TV series for Amazon Prime Video, and comes from the brilliant mind of Tsuneo Goda, the creator of stop-motion sensation ‘Domo’.
Aimed at young preschool children, the new animation follows the adventures of Komaneko and her friends, Radibo, Yeti and her new friend Mimmi bear. By making movies of the people and events she encounters, Komaneko gains an understanding of her surroundings through her camera lens and relays the joy of making new friends.
Noriko Matsumoto, executive producer of dwarf Studios, comments: “Komaneko is one of dwarf Studios most popular characters, and we were thrilled to be able to bring her to Amazon Prime’s growing viewership. It was an exciting opportunity to adapt Komaneko and bring her message of creativity and friendship to a new younger audience.”
dwarf Studios, who are represented by Ground Control in the United Kingdom for commercial work, created the Komaneko character in 2003 and debuted the cute stop-motion cat in the short film, ‘Komaneko – The First Step’. Following great success in Japan, a feature film was released, ‘Komaneko – The Curious Cat’, which achieved massive popularity in France and ran in over 900 movie theatres.
Matsumoto, says: “This new Komaneko story helps children understand that appearances can be deceiving. Komaneko and her good friend Yeti go searching for apples and stumble across Mimmi Bear, a possible new friend. Yeti’s scary looks frightens Mimmi at first, but Komaneko makes a stop-motion film that shows her that initial judgements can often be misplaced and we should judge people by what’s on the inside rather than the out. It’s a real heart-warming tale of friendship and compassion that children will both love and learn from.”
The Curious Kitty and Friends is is available now on Amazon Video.
The pilots can be viewed with the Amazon Video app available on Fire TV, Fire tablets, iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, Roku, Xbox, PlayStation, Wii, as well as hundreds of other connected devices such as smart TVs—or customers can visit www.amazon.co.uk/pilotseason to watch online.
