The Music Lab’s Jo Paterson is tipped by Film4 and Medium as one of the ‘top five female film composers that should be on your radar’. Here she shares the tracks that have shaped her.
“These tracks are a selection of my own musical inspiration and music that has shaped my path as an artist and composer. It includes pieces that I always find myself coming back to, and listening to repeatedly. The track list itself corresponds and timelines with my own musical ‘journey’ and influences growing up - to finding my own ‘voice’ as an artist and then film composer. So as you listen to this playlist you hear all the incredibly differing and amazing artists that sculpted me as the musician and composer I am today.
The playlist ranges from the jazz greats, introduced to me by my Dad, to the electronic and found sound. Then we get into the world of contemporary classical film music mixed with electronica. As I delved more into the ‘sound world’ of my own music I became so enthralled from these artists combining all these incredible different elements of music. Particularly the combination of strings and the electronic. It’s something I love to do myself. So I hope you enjoy listening.”
