For Blackout Tuesday, music supervisor at Yessian Music Detroit, Lars Makie, passes the megaphone to the artists who shine a light in Songs of Protest and Hope playlist
The last time we did a playlist for LBB we were on the cusp of a global pandemic. For that, we put together a soundtrack meant as a diversion from the uncertainty that the Coronavirus was bringing.

Now, we’re in the midst of worldwide protests and marches. I would feel completely remiss if I didn’t use this moment to help focus attention to the situation and pass the megaphone to the artists who have been shining a light on these problems for years.

We’re living through a chapter in a history book, that is for sure. It’s telling (and unfortunate in a way) that many of the songs are over 40 years old. Recurring themes continue to tell themselves over and over again. I can only hope we learn from the voices crying to be heard, progress forward and legitimately change.
