Drinks & liquids director joins roster

Park Village is delighted to announce that top drinks and liquids director Martin Wonnacott has signed to the London based Production Company for directorial representation. Martin is well known for his photography but his addition to Park Village’s roster of directors signals a progression into moving image.

On his ambition to move from stills to film, Martin says “It’s a natural progression for my career. I’ve honed the stills photography down, but a feature of my stills work is that I’ve always thought in terms of movement. All my work has to capture an emotion and to do that in a single image is quite restricting whereas with film you get different nuances through the movement and the sound.”

Martin comments, “The facilities that Park Village possess, and the way that they set themselves up, makes this a great, complementary fit. Park Village has a great reputation and a great history. They’ve produced some fantastic work in the past and the way that they’re moving forward now is very exciting for me. It’s a great time for me to join them, they’re a wonderful group of people and the way that they put teams together is awesome.”

Whilst shooting drinks may seem like a niche area for a photographer to specialise in, Martin’s love-affair with liquids began during his childhood. At the age of four he began to experiment with liquids and from then on he was intrigued by the technical difficulties thrown up by shooting them. Martin has moved on from this childhood interest to cement his place as one of the world’s top liquids photographers, shooting campaigns for clients including Coca-Cola, Diageo, Heineken, Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff, Jameson and Pepsi.

Martin says “Throughout my career it’s been a fascinating area because everybody drinks something. It’s about engagement, it’s a huge industry and what fascinates me is understanding how branding and positioning work. I drilled right down into this world and whenever people see my work I want them to lust for it, you have to engage them otherwise there’s no point.”

He adds “Photography has been my mainstay until now and I still get a buzz out of seeing it. I think for me, seeing a project I’d shot for Pepsi in Times Square was pretty cool, it was all over the place and it’s nice to see your work around.”

Looking to the future, Martin hopes that his move to Park Village will allow him to change the ratio of taking stills to shooting film. He says “I’d like to expand beyond what I’m doing at the moment. It’s a great opportunity to work with professional, top-end production guys that will help me to expand on both technical and creative levels and produce fantastic work. I like to challenge myself and take myself out of my comfort zone – there’s a lot more to come.”
