Rosie May Bird Smith’s charmingly bizarre 'Herd Immunity' perfectly blends the weird and slightly surreal with something that feels rooted in reality

Papaya Films won Silver at the British Arrows in the Social Media category for Rosie May Bird Smith’s charmingly bizarre ‘Herd Immunity’ film. The film previously won Best Film & Best Direction at the Papaya Young Directors Gala 2022. The story follows Tony, a man who takes everything he reads online as gospel, exploring ‘Fake News’ and online conspiracy theorists. Poor Tony reads one questionable article and sets him on a path to splash some serious cash on the investment of a lifetime.

'Herd Immunity' perfectly blends the weird and slightly surreal with something that feels rooted in reality. Capturing how ‘Fake News’ spreads and how absurd but believable it can be especially during the lockdowns, in which misinformation was spreading through the web like a wildfire.

“We are extremely happy for Rosie and everyone who contributed to 'Herd Immunity' being such a great piece of film. At Papaya we are proud to be supporting young directors in the development of their careers. It’s a pleasure to see Rosie’s talent flourish and be recognised in the big stage, we’re happy to be a part of this story” said Wojtek Skiba, Papaya Films London EP on receipt of the award.
