OB welcomes director Pete Novosel to its roster
Pete has a sharp and offbeat style of comedy, an ability to inspire brilliant performances and create unforgettable content, regardless of budget or timeline.
After growing up in Perth, Western Australia, he spent his childhood ploughing through cinema and dreaming of one day becoming a director. His journey to achieving that goal took an accidental detour when he stumbled into advertising and enjoyed a long and celebrated career as a creative director.
He then went on to direct commercials for brands such as DIRECTV, NFL, American Express, Google, Sony, Mercedes, Dr Pepper, Sprint, and Adam & Eve Adult Toys to name but a few.
During his time in advertising he has worked in London, Australia, Asia, and the US, which has given him a wider perspective, not only on the world, but has helped him develop a uniquely personal tone that blurs the line between comedy and drama, which is evident in all of his work.
Most recently he helped launch Houseplant, working in close creative collaboration with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg by writing and directing the video content for their cannabis brand and helping bring their vision to life.
He has been honoured with some of the most prestigious accolades from the Clios, D&AD, One Show, Effies and Cannes Lions - all of which he considers to be utterly meaningless but sound pretty impressive in bios such as this.
When he’s not on a commercial set he's working on several narrative projects, including his most recent short film called Teller Number Four.
Either that, or he's telling anyone who'll listen that he was in a noughties punk rock band that toured with Good Charlotte, had a Top 10 hit and a song featured on Guitar Hero.
Pete is represented by OB for commercials in the UK and US and is with 42 for narrative and long form projects.
Otis Bell, CEO at OB said, “Pete effortlessly straddles the worlds of advertising and entertainment. Not only does he thrive on directing brand campaigns but he’s also a naturally gifted writer and film maker with an abundance of smart and funny ideas. It’s going to be a pleasure introducing him to the UK market.”
Ben Cavey, head of comedy and entertainment at 42 said, “We are exceptionally excited to be working with Pete. He has a unique comedic voice and an incredible distinctive directorial visual style to match it. He is of course a talent magnet as well, due to his passion and infectious energy, and we look forward to supporting him as he brings more fresh and always surprising comedic stories to the world.”
Renee Krumweide, EP at OB42 said, “Pete is the director we all want to work with, he’s the ultimate collaborator and always present with a smile on his face. With Pete, you get an abundance of hard work, creativity, and experience and we have only just scratched the surface. I love putting him in a room with clients and can’t wait to see what we can do together across the globe at OB42.”
