Film and animation studio Not To Scale recently created a short film directed by Colin Hesterly for Eurotunnel Le Shuttle. With the aim to construct a world that instills a sense of warmth and travel, Colin used clean lines and incorporated Eurotunnel Le Shuttle’s bold colours to create a sense of nostalgia, wonder, and awe. The idea of using the circles as transitional elements from shot to shot solidifies the idea of travelling through the tunnel and drives the underlining message. Colin worked closely with DRUM to create something that satisfied everyone’s visual appetite and a film that connects with the audience in a fun and light-hearted way and gets them excited about travelling with Euro Tunnel Le Shuttle.
“For the aesthetic we wanted something that was deeply grounded in reality, yet didn't feel like a carbon of copy of the world we experience every day,” comments Hesterly. “From the beginning I always saw the spot as a modern travel poster. I felt like we are traveling through this bright, cheery world and so everything from the colors to characters needed to represent that.”
He adds, “I always like to bring my work to life in the final stages of coloring and compositing, little things like adding in additional elements to bring the world to life. With this film in particular there's a scene containing a French village, within that village there's lots of little subtle actions happening: a flag blowing, chimney smoke, birds, and best of all a villager opens the shutters of their house.”
