The Groupe makes a future-facing statement with new hire - and Nick steps down from R/GA Global CCO role
Nick Law has left R/GA for a meaty new double role at Publicis Groupe. The erstwhile global CCO of R/GA will be joining #TeamSadoun at Chief Creative Officer of Publicis Groupe and President of Publicis Communications. Notably the Publicis Groupe role means that his remit includes not just Publicis Communications but also Publicis Media, Publicis.Sapient, Publicis Health and Publicis One).
“Nick is a true unicorn in our industry. Throughout his career, he has delivered world-class work that builds on what we believe all our clients need: the alchemy of creativity and tech. This modernity in ideas, combined with his obvious leadership skills, make Nick the perfect person to play such a pivotal role in our Groupe. His partnership will be a game-changer in our journey to lead the change in our industry,” said Publicis Chairman and CEO Arthur Sadoun.
The announcement comes with a characteristically charming video from Arthur, named 'Bienvenue, Nick!'. With tongue in cheek, he introduces the widely respected Nick - for the benefit of 'those of you who have only been in the business for a few days'.
He has spent 17 years at R/GA, an agency which has been a driving force in creative innovation and has, in many ways, shaped the aspirations of the wider advertising industry. Therefore he’s a smart choice for a holding company that’s undergoing huge organisational and technological overhaul – as the official release states, the appointment ‘signals Publicis’ on-going commitment to creativity and technology at the service of marketing and business transformation’.
The new role is due to start in May 2018, ahead of the Groupe’s Viva Technology conference. He will join the Executive Committee and report directly to Arthur Sadoun, Chairman & CEO of Publicis Groupe. According to reports, Mark Tutssel will retain his role as Publicis Communications’ creative council.
Given Publicis Groupe’s re-organisation and time spent implementing their AI platform Marcel, it looks like Nick’s role will complement this change. The official statement explains: “ Nick’s mission will be to take the Groupe’s creative performance to the next level; leveraging, curating and nurturing the full spectrum of creative talent, harnessing the power of data and technology to deliver the best creative solutions to their clients, brands and businesses. Nick will also play a key role in shaping and accelerating the Groupe’s transformation to a platform that connects, empowers and unleashes the creative potential of each and every Publicis employee. He will have the reach and authority over the entire Groupe creative community in a seamless way.”
