Wavemaker will deliver effective and efficient media strategy and planning for the NHS’s flagship ‘We are the NHS’ and ‘Help Us, Help You’ campaigns

Wavemaker has been appointed by NHSE to handle media strategy and planning for the organisation’s campaigns.

The decision by NHSE to award their contract to Wavemaker builds on an existing relationship - spanning seven years - between the health service and the media agency.

Wavemaker’s remit will be to deliver effective and efficient media strategy and planning for the NHS’s flagship ‘We are the NHS’ and ‘Help Us, Help You’ campaigns, to further enhance public confidence in this much-loved organisation and reduce the pressure on the NHS over the challenging winter months.

According to the findings of the latest British Social Attitudes survey, there is enduring support for the founding principles of the NHS from the public, as well as the quality of care people receive and the outstanding quality of the staff they encounter when being treated. However, it also showed that the Covid pandemic and ensuing disruption to NHS services has had an impact and, as a result, Britons identified the top three priorities for the service as: addressing the pressure on or workload of NHS staff (37%); increasing the number of staff in the NHS (36%); and improving waiting times for routine services (35%).

The annual workforce recruitment campaign - 'We are the NHS'- was created to increase positive perceptions of, and pride in, working for the NHS across a wide range of roles to motivate people to join and retain those already employed. ‘Help Us, Help You’ - is designed to save lives by changing how people access services to reduce pressure on the NHS over the particularly difficult winter months. In order to maintain capacity and drive more effective use of services, it encourages people to access help at the right time and place.

Katie Lee, chief operating officer, Wavemaker UK said, “It’s an honour to have the opportunity to continue working with one of the UK’s most cherished brands and services. There is no doubt that the NHS makes people proud to be British. As such, campaigns that showcase the varied and fulfilling roles the NHS can offer and ease the pressure off its current, remarkable workers are more important than ever in protecting this world-class service.”

Phil Bastable, head of marketing, NHSE added, “Wavemaker provided us with a robust strategy that not only promises to deliver on our objectives but also strongly reflects our values and the founding principles that underpin the NHS. We have full confidence that, with their support, we will see fantastic results over the next four years that, most importantly, allow us to continue delivering the highest possible standard of care to the English public.”
