The thirst in the U.S. for soccer is at an all-time high. To support and increase this enthusiasm, NBC Sports Group, the exclusive U.S. Premier League media rights holder, released an app designed to help soccer fans rally around their teams: the NBC Sports MatchMaker.
The app was created by strategic creative agency Naked Communications and development partner Papercloud, customized for use by U.S. soccer fans and licensed to NBC Sports. MatchMaker is designed to help fans enjoy matches together, putting the ability to locate, chat and meet up with other fans of their team at users’ fingertips. At game time, the app activates an interactive map showing exactly where other fans are congregating, and highlights the best soccer-watching bars and restaurants in the area.
Fans can also use the app to invite friends to meet up in the moment, or organize a get-together for an upcoming match. Because the app is directly linked to NBC Sports Group’s Premier League schedule and ProSoccerTalk content, fans can also set reminders for upcoming matches and stay up to date with the latest Premier League stats, scores, and breaking news. MatchMaker is available in the Apple App Store and on Google Play.
“Ever since NBC Sports Group’s Premier League coverage kicked off last season, we’ve been working on new ways to bring U.S. fans closer to the sport,” said Bill Bergofin, SVP, Marketing, NBC Sports. “Now fans have another outlet to connect with and 'meet up with their mates' wherever they may be.”
Matt Houltham, Managing Partner of Naked Communications, noted, “Diehards know the only thing better than watching football is watching it surrounded by other fans. But sometimes, finding other fans to watch with can be a challenge. ‘MatchMaker’ solves that problem by enabling users to locate, chat, and meet-up with other fans of their team, so they can enjoy the thrill of watching matches together.”
