London Sound House, 750mph, got their second Music+Sound Awards win this year for Sam Ashwell’s faultless mix on the Riyadh Season - Fury vs. Ngannou spot. It’s a masterpiece.
This is what they had to say about the project…
“The trailer offers an exhilarating insight into the intense preparation and rivalry between Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou before their highly-anticipated crossover match in Riyadh. Utilizing meticulous sound design, the trailer vividly portrays their superhero-like strength, underscoring the power and prowess of the fighters. The meticulously crafted sound effects, including thunderous blows and shattering impacts, accentuate the larger-than-life persona of the athletes, effectively heightening the drama of the event. This impactful sound design is seamlessly balanced with what feels like a very feminine musical score, further enhancing the trailer's emotional depth and amplifying the anticipation for this sport’s spectacle.
The brief was to create a bespoke sound design mix to complement the picture and enhance the narrative of the spot. The challenge was to create a soundtrack to drive the pace of the film. Every sound was built for each specific moment, creating the environment for the space or vignette.
Every single sound you hear was created specifically for the film through either sound design, foley or manipulation of SFX. A huge part of the challenge with the sound design for this project was balancing out the music SFX and foley alongside the music to make the final mix work in equilibrium. Their mix for this was heavily influenced by a back-and-forth with the editor during the post process. This helped to create rhythms and musicality through the spot.”
