Post production studio Dungeon Beach is thrilled to announce its success at the recent 2024 Addy Awards. Two campaigns for Wegmans Food Markets, both produced by Optic Sky and finished at Dungeon Beach, were recognised at the ceremony, taking home the Best of Video Broadcast award, and two silver awards in the Elements of Advertising, Video Editing and Cinematography categories.
Capturing the essence of the bustling, fast-paced New York lifestyle, the campaign ‘Delicious in a NY Minute’ is a kinetic celebration of ready-to-eat and ready-to-heat meals for busy Manhattanites. Macro shots of rolling sushi, bouncing capers, and a journey through a canyon of feta cheese showcase Wegmans’ gourmet meal options at its new location in Astor Place, New York.
Picking up the Best of Video Broadcast award, the spot was lauded for its practical in-camera effects, including photographing inside of an oven, energetic editing, and mouth-watering colour grade.
Further work for Wegmans centred around a staple food at a football watch party, chicken wings, picked up two silver awards in the Elements of Advertising, Video Editing and Cinematography categories. Titled ‘For the Win’, the campaign is a comedic take on the Western ‘High Noon’ showdown, featuring two partygoers engaged in an epic standoff over the last chicken wing. The spot was celebrated for its humour, relatability, and sunny colourful photography and grading.
Colour grading helped real Wegmans food to take centre stage, making it appear as fresh and enticing as possible. Dungeon Beach was on hand to find the perfect char on broiled capers and white fish, spotlight bright orange sushi roll salmon and evoke the perfect hue of sauce that screams ‘hot and spicy’ through the screen.
The studio’s finishing work went beyond typical colour grading and into the realm of Flame work, tracking everything from individual capers as the camera corkscrews through a flaming oven, to parts of a chicken wing as it’s lifted through the air, making sure viewers can appreciate every detail of each mouth-watering morsel.
Jeff Sousa, supervising colourist at Dungeon Beach commented, “Dungeon Beach is proud to have become the go-to colour grading service for Optic Sky's work with Wegmans. Optic Sky always sticks the landing with boundary-pushing production, whether it be acrobatic cinematography or pulling off an entire comedic story in 30 seconds. And Wegmans' fresh food is the perfect muse for a colourist to add texture and pop.”
